Breasts - what men really think

This piece is work in progress.

I would like to write a piece about what we, as men, think about breasts. Anyone who knows me personally will know that I am fascinated by breasts. I've known that since I was about 10. Over the last few years I've tried to understand why the sight of even the suggestion of the shape of a breast arouses such deep feelings in me.

We as men, spend so much time girl-watching yet so little time talking about it - except in the locker room language. I dream of being able to speak about it in a language of beauty and meaningful relationship.

I had my haircut the other day. My hairdresser is male and his partner is female. Faye washed my hair this time because Wren was on the phone fixing something up. Faye and I had a conversation about auras during the hair washing ritual and somehow the topic of breasts came up. I don't often find myself talking to women about breasts but this time I did. So I floated the idea of how I would like to write about them. I was surprised but encouraged when she said enthusiastically - "Oh you should." I was interested that a woman would like to know what men think about breasts. Faye went on to tell me that the one common thing amongst all the men she knew was their fascination with breasts. She told me the story of a gay friend of hers, "... a lovely man. But whenever we were together he spoke to my boobs!"

When I retold this conversation at the dinner table that night where only one of my four daughters was home, my lovely wife said "Oh yeah, and I suppose she had big boobs."
"No," I replied, "she's got pretty boobs."
Then Elise piped in "That's how you're different from most guys dad. Most guys would say", putting on her best ocker accent "'ahhhhhh she's got greaaaaaat tits' where you say 'she's got pretty boobs'. It's very different."

I suppose that was a slight diversion. The reason for this post is twofold.

1. If you think you would be offended by a piece about breasts, then perhaps you should stay away for a week or so.

2. More importantly, I'd like to know what you think of the idea.

Right now, I'm going to leave comments open on this post. I hope I'm not flooded with voyeurs wanting to get some excitement at others expense. But we'll see how that goes.

I'd like to write the piece because I want to be honest. I want to say that I love women and I appreciate how you look. But I don't want to try to own your bodies and maybe I can do that best by being honest.

I don't know. As I said, I'd like to know what you think. Men and women alike.

Over to you...
